    great simple video

    hey dick,

sometimes your wrist strength wont allow you to get those last few reps especially if youre in a heavy lifting session. In weight lifting youre allowed to cheat occasionally wether its swinging the weight or using straps to add a few more repetitions

Grip muscles are useful, but they are also weaker than other muscles for two reasons. One, they are smaller. Two, they are designed for fine motor movements, not gross motor movements. My back will always be stronger than my forearms, so wrist straps are necessary!

Very heplful, clear and simple !
    Thanks !!!

  • JasonGreene91 says:

how are you suppose to do it if u want to put it on two dumbells

  • tselegala says:

Well, there are many muscles in the forearm not all are for grip. I need to have a strong grip for my type of training (strength) so i never use straps and also train my grip separately using various exercises. Bodybuilding is just for appearance so strength is not important although i never really understood that mentality.

And by the way, i understood that it was just a demo but i have seen people using straps for everything and i just find it sad, like wearing a belt for bicep curls.

  • LeontheMilkman says:

Hehe, this was just a demo :-) If you I used a barbell and you could not see the weights at the ends in the video, I would have been accused of lifting a pipe. Seriously I like to use straps on all back exercises, from chins, through rows and pulls and my forearms are 14.6 inches – not too shabby.

  • muzimuzi says:

So what do you think? I dont use straps on my deadlifts but i just bought couple of ‘em so dont think im going to pass using them but we’ll c

  • tselegala says:

Yeah i know but some people use straps for everything and belts too. I find it a little silly. So far i can think of only two exercises that MAY need straps and its the deadlift and very heavy barbell shrugs. And only because repetitive use of an alternate grip can hurt the shoulder on the long term. But hey…to each his own huh?

  • muzimuzi says:

    he was just demonstrating =p

  • tselegala says:

My god! If you need straps for any dumbell even 150 pounders or for pull downs you have a problem. You better start doing something about it!! Grip muscles are not the flashiest ones but they are probably the most useful in every day life.

  • LeontheMilkman says:

I am a bit weary, but I do turn the staggered grip around from time to time on my lighter weights. Witout the staggered grip you lift much, much less.

  • Torenkownage says:

Thanks for the video, I had no clue how to use wrist straps until I saw your video. 5 stars!

  • jxk2790 says:

when it comes to deadlifts, no, it shouldnt. it actually gives you a better grip and that is what staggered grips are usually used for.

  • jxk2790 says:

straps give you better, longer lasting grip especially when you are working with heavy weight. straps work great but never should substitute true strength. when you are using straps for EVERY movement you’ll end up with disporportionate forearms so be aware. the only things i would truly use them for are for lat pulldowns or pullups because your forearms/grip tends to tire out before your lats do. same with shrugs. forearms tend to go out before, especially if you dont have forearm strength.

    thanks for the video bro

  • jolicia12 says:

its quite simple to do with one hand, just takes some practice

  • jolicia12 says:

i just want to know, im 16, deadlift about what….12 reps of 90kg, so not alot to effect what im going to ask, but i want to know if you do staggered grip, palm facing in and outwards, does it work one part of the body more than the other, like when you do bent over rows with staggered grip it works one lat more than the other i just want to know if it affects one side more than the other when it comes to deadlifts

  • peter13433 says:

    what exercis requires straps?
and what exactly do the straps do?

  • hellere10banditters says:

    I mean, Straps.

  • hellere10banditters says:

    Oh well. That’s easy :)
anyway, I figured a way to use both strips when using a barbell. so it’s good

  • SA1911 says:

The last thing he shows is how to apply with one hand… :p

  • sobejogger says:

Thats a great tip about the strap being like an extra thumb and going on opposite the thumb. Never heard that anywhere else. 5 stars
