I mostly do calisthenics but I lift weights occasionally.I’m talking about reaching the point of failure on any exercise after one rep or two reps or even 50 reps depending on the weight used. Is it detrimental to go to failure on an exercise? Should I stop shortly before going to temporary muscular failure? What’s the difference in reaching failure on one set versus cumulative exhaustion after several sets? Is going to failure a bad thing? Some people seem to think that going to failure is absolutely necessary on every set while others think that going to failure is like poison to your nervous system. Is it really that bad for you to continue a set until you temporarily can’t do any more? Does it lead to burn out(overtraining) more quickly than never going to failure? Is it necessary to feel a burn or feel fatigued after a set? Or could I just split up a set of ten repetitions into ten sets of one rep in order to prevent fatigue? I’m really confused.

Just wondering.

Also, do they still hose you down and escort you to your cell naked?

Sometimes, I dont take only a shoulder-width grip while bench pressing. I take a very wide grip- in such a way that my chest muscles stretch when I spread out my hands to take the grip. Doing this, I can still bring the bar very low without hurting my shoulders. Will this grip help me engage my chest muscles more during bench press? I have a feeling that doing this will put a lot of weight on my chest instead of my shoulders, thus help me develop my pectorals.
Thanks.

Does it make it easier if you bounce between each rep of deadlift?

I just started working out again and was doing squats on one of the racks at my gym. Is there anyway to relieve the pressure on the back of my neck while doing squats so it doesn’t hurt afterward? It’s still really hurts and I worked out several hours ago.
But would a towel make it harder to keep in place so the bar didn’t slip down my neck?

Know your optimal heart rate during workouts
Imagine owning but not knowing how to properly operate an appliance. If that appliance were an oven, a series of burned or undercooked meals would inspire the owner to properly read the instruction manual.

I am 29 with a low risk pregnancy, and I am just at 14 weeks. My arms are starting to get a little flabby from the weight I’m gaining, and I’d love to tone them up. I have little 3 lb freeweights I could use, but want to know if they are safe. Anyone know?

I’m 38, but played years of contact sports through college. I can do a lot of pushups for my age, but there’s a loud creaking sound from my left shoulder and/or arm during these. It doesn’t hurt. Ideas?

Im skinny but i can see my muscle grow is it jst me or no?

Work doesn’t stop during NFL lockout
As a couple of the Panthers’ offensive starters and another Charlotte-area NFL player ran through drills Friday morning at Ardrey Kell’s football stadium, a group of the school’s Junior ROTC cadets did calisthenics and played keep-away at the other end of the field.
