While I applaud your service to this country, you have to understand that the functions performed in duty are not the same that others might perform. The bench press is very useful for a large number of sports. I’m a high school shot put and discus and football coach The bench press, incline press, and military presses all help tremendously for throwers and are equally important for blocking and tackling power in football. Running is always a good idea, but not mutually exclusive with lifting.

    IMHO benching is …
IMHO benching is pointless because of its limited application. i survived two wars as an infantryman because i had good endurance, not because i could do a bunch of push ups or pull ups. try running for distance. no resistance needed. a real man’s endeavor.

    Uh, there’s always …
Uh, there’s always something that supports the human body when you’re lifting weights. I’m still unclear on the point you’re trying to make. Free weight benching requires a ridiculously high amount of stabilization. Are you trying to suggest that bench pressing is easy? In the end, nothing is easy if you’re using enough resistance.

    With the (free …
With the (free weight) squat, it’s obvious that your legs also work to stay balanced and is your base of support. When you lie down on the bench and perform a bench press, the bench becomes your base of support and you have no need for capable and strong legs. The work becomes tougher when you do presses on a Swiss ball. The bench stability is integral. That’s why some even put their legs up (lol) when they do bench presses. i can only recall one or two sports that involve lying on your back.

    Uh….what? When …
Uh….what? When you’re pushing a lineman, you’re not floating in space, you’re pushing from the ground. The bench does no work because it stays still. When you bench press, you’re supported by something underneath you the same way that you are when you perform any lift. By your logic, when you perform a squat, the ground is doing work for you because you’re standing on it. Sorry to butt into a conversation, I was just a bit confused by your statement.

    White Power!
    White Power!

    hmmm, without the …
hmmm, without the bench, and if it were standing cable crossovers it would be 200 pounds, which is still impressive. The bench does a lot of the resistance “work”. think about it: if you were a lineman/defender and someone was trying to get past you, the bench would be like a bigger guy standing behind you, helping you hold your ground while you pushed the other guy back.

he did that way to easy…he should smash that record, but none the less an outstanding amount to lift raw, which i think should be the only thing considered to be suitable for a record of any kind.

So if this was a …
So if this was a raw WR then those bench press shirts give other lifters 3 or 4 hundered extra pounds? What’s the WR with a shirt over 1000 right? That’s lame as hell. Raw is way more impressive.

Nah he touched and Eddie yelled press, I know what you mean, but that wasn’t going on here. It was a very momentary pause, but whatever, he smoked it and it’s quite clear from the ease with which he put it up that he would have smoked it if the bar had stayed on his chest for another half a second. It got three white lights.
