I’ve been working out for about two months now, so far I’ve only used some weight machines chest press, pec fly etc. Just looking for some advice on where/how to begin with free weights.
well you right now have like 0 stabilizer muscles seeing how the machines limit movement. so you shouldn’t do as high weight as you should but should still only be able to do 15 reps for the first week or so. after that those stabilizers should have caught up some so you can start going heavy again. flys are pretty much the same motion. im sure you’ve seen someone doing them. you’ve probably seen these exercises done in the gym with bad form.. so i’ll show you good form
look at this guys form youtube.com/scooby1961
he uses great form
I got an industrial bar piercing about 2 months ago, and I thought it was healing up well. I took it out today to clean it, & I realized that my cartilage is growing up a little. It’s kind of like it’s trying to grow up over my barbell. Is this normal?
It’s probably just scar tissue, if you are all healed.
If it’s only a little, ignore it. Some people grow keloid scars, which are scary looking.
For some gross-looking examples, see this article:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hypertrophic_scars
And don’t get any more piercings unless you like the look of the scar, since this is your personal scar pattern.
How can I train my shoulder muscles without dumbells?
Just buy some freakin dumbells. They are the cheapest and most effective way to train.
I am a cross country runner so I think im ok in that area. I just want to know how many pushups and situps i should be doing daily to prepare me for bct. how many should i do each set?
Everyday Do 3 sets of 10 pull ups, 3 sets of 50 push ups, and 3 sets of 50 crunches daily. And then do as many pull ups, push ups, and crunches you can until muscle failure two days out of the week.If you have any more questions just ask.Good Luck!
I noticed that many times when they are at the gym.None of the women do free weights. If they do the max they do is 30 lbs or so.Why is that?
Even 99% of man who lift cant look like mr.olympia.My buddy who is been bodybuilding for 10 years look no where near olympia.I been training for 1 year and in 11 years i dont think its possible to be like olympia.
I’m going to be honest.. First of all, I’m not strong. I could not do 30lbs at all, and second I’m scared of looking really bulky.. I do the equipment but just want to burn the fat around the arm not get a big old muscle.. and I also think that some women really don’t know what to do with free weights! Like, they aren’t sure what exercises to do and how. Just my opinion!
No. You can increase intensity by waiting shorter time between sets, doing more reps, doing drop sets, etc. You don’t always need to increase the weight, although that’s one way and probably the most common because of the ego thing. lol
Every time I squat, I hear a weird sound kind of like when you crack your knuckles. I would think it is the sound of the cartilage cracking but it happens every time I squat and the it takes a while for the gases in to fill back up between the joints. I have this weird sound in my right elbow when I lift weights weights.
yes that is normal….
It happens all the time when u squat your bones clink together
I am currently weighing 122 lbs. My bench press max is currently 185 lbs. and I would like to know how to increase it fast. So can u give me some work outs, ways,or techniques that will help me increase it very fast.
Thank you!
Keep working out and each week try adding 5 pounds to your max. Make sure you use a spotter and after you increase your max by 5 pounds, go for another five pounds.
Many people need to keep track of their blood pressure values, so that their doctor knows how the treatment is progressing and if more should be done to lower the blood pressure. Constantly monitoring your blood pressure is a good thing to do for your health.
You can measure your blood pressure by going to the doctor and asking him to do it, or by doing it yourself with the help of a blood pressure monitor. Those who don’t have high blood pressure can visit the doctor once a month to see how the values of their blood pressure have changed, but those who have high blood pressure need to measure it much more often. The higher the blood pressure is, the more measurements are required. At many patients the doctor must learn the values a few times a week, and at those with very high blood pressure, a few times a day. So, acquiring a blood pressure monitor can be really useful because you can find out the values of the blood pressure at home as many times per day as you want.
There are two main types of blood pressure monitors: digital and aneroid.
Aneroid blood pressure monitors are easily portable and easy to use. However, they are very sensitive and can be broken or damaged very easy. In order to find out the value of your blood pressure you need to listen to a stethoscope that is connected to a cuff that wraps around the arm. They are very cheap.
Digital blood pressure monitors are small devices, as big as a cell phone or a walkman, connected to a cuff that is worn on the arm. The cuff measures the blood pressure and sends the value to the blood pressure monitor, which displays it and records it. Some of them can even print a list with the last measurements. Digital blood pressure monitors are more modern and easier to use than aneroid ones, but they are more expensive too.
Wrist and finger blood monitors are available on the market too, but research has shown that they are not as accurate as the ones mentioned above.
Remember that before you use a blood pressure monitor to measure its value you shouldn’t drink alcohol, coffee, or smoke tobacco because they raise the blood pressure temporarily. When you measure it, make sure that you are rested and you are sitting in a comfortable position.
If you have a blood pressure monitor, you have to keep a list with the values of all the measurements. This list must be taken to the doctor each week, so he can make a chart based on it and see how the treatment is progressing. Blood pressure monitors are very useful for those who want to quickly and effectively lower their blood pressure.

The Lap Band System uses a Lap Band which is an adjustable gastric band that is actually a silicone belt that is placed around the top of the stomach. Lap Band surgery is one in which this band is placed dividing the stomach into two parts with the upper part forming a pouch which is connected to the lower part of the stomach through a narrow passage. It’s a weight loss surgery but unlike gastric bypass surgery it is temporary whereas gastric bypass surgery is permanent and requires much more of a lifestyle change. You can lose belly fat and other body fat with this procedure.
During Lap Band surgery, a bag filled with fluid is placed around the stomach, reducing its size and decreasing the amount of food it can take in. This breakthrough is the least invasive of any form of bariatric or weight loss surgery. And Lap Band surgery is a much simpler surgery than the better known gastric bypass surgery. For gastric bypass, of which there are two types (Roux-en-Y-gastric bypass and biliopancreatic diversion bypass), the weight loss surgeon not only reduces the size of the stomach, but also creates a bypass around the stomach and also a part of the intestine in this more complicated procedure.
It’s been around for about ten years, but it didn’t get approval from the FDA until 2001. While gastric bypass is still the more well-known option for weight loss surgery, there has been increasing interest in the Lap Band and it’s becoming a much preferred procedure. According to some studies done BioEnterics for the FDA, the band can create side effects such as nausea and vomiting, heartburn and sometimes abdominal pain. Sometimes patients need another surgery to correct a problem with it. But, the Lap Band surgery procedure is preferred over the other permanent surgeries and is the least traumatic. It is the only adjustable and completely reversible obesity surgery in the United States today.
The surgery takes less than an hour and does require an overnight stay in the hospital. The patient’s stomach isn’t stapled. And the small intestine isn’t cut and rerouted as it is in gastric bypass surgery. The banding procedure also eliminates the ‘dumping syndrome’, which is the sick feeling that is associated with eating sweets or drinking alcoholic beverages after gastric bypass surgery.
Lap Band surgery typically costs thousands of dollars less than gastric bypass surgeries do. And people often travel to Mexico or other countries if they don’t have health insurance. Both surgeries improve or eliminate diabetes, high blood pressure and other illnesses or symptoms associated with obesity.
Gastric bypass surgery forces patients to lose weight rapidly though malabsorption of important key nutrients, but the Lap Band can be customized to fit individual weight loss needs and goals. Lap Band surgery has helped many patients lose weight successfully and who have been good candidates for it.
You can go online and visit blogs, forums and personal websites of people who have undergone lap band surgery to learn more about experiences. You might find you identify with them and their stories will help you decide if you’re a good candidate and are moving in the right direction.
Considering whether to undergo Lap Band surgery requires serious thought. It should only to be considered if morbid obesity is a major medical issue and nothing has worked. Make sure you understand the side effects and risks. Check your health insurance plan or provider and see if it is covered. Both gastric bypass and lap band surgery can provide significant health benefits through proven long-term weight loss. But many people do gain weight along the line so it is not a cure-all or a way to get around changing eating habits. Diets and eating habits must be changed for any weight loss surgery to work.
